Students from UK take part in a challenging programme
This summer, a group of 23, 16-18 year old students from Kesgrave Highschool (near Ipswich, UK) visited Kyparissia Bay to take part in a challenging programme designed to stretch the group, and assist the Kyparissia Project during one of its busiest periods.
The programme involved monitoring some of Kyparissia Bayʼs (long!) peripheral beaches, cleaning two of our busiest monitored beaches ready for hatching season and building ARCHELON a turtle box for a potential stranded turtle. The students also took part in some of ARCHELONʼs core work and joined the project for an end-of-programme barbeque and volleyball game so that they could experience a taste of life as an ARCHELON volunteer!
The group came with great enthusiasm and energy for the work, and although many found the distances to walk and the anti-social working hours a challenge, they completed every task they were given and found the programme a rewarding and memorable experience – such that many of them would like to return to the project as ARCHELON volunteers in the future!
The group were given assistance by ARCHELON volunteers from the project who also greatly enjoyed the experience, and had nothing but high praise for the work the group did and the effort they put in.
So congratulations to those involved – it was a successful and enjoyable experience for all!
