EUROPEAN YEAR OF VOLUNTEERING CELEBRATION
To mark the European Year of Volunteering of 2011, a tour began in 27 European cities with the aim of creating appropriate conditions for volunteering between members of the European Union, the strengthening of the organizers of voluntary activities, improving the quality of voluntary activities, recognition of voluntary activities and awareness about the value and importance of volunteering. The tour was hosted in Athens – after Brussels, Budapest, Vienna, Lisbon, Luxembourg and Madrid – from Thursday 17 / 3 until Wednesday 23 / 3 at Technopolis, Gazi.
The event entitled "Environmental Protection and Animal Protection" organized by the General Secretariat of Youth was held on Monday 21st of March 2011.
During the event, in the booth of ARCHELON, volunteers informed visitors, ordinary ones or student groups of primary schools as well as schools of OAED (employment state agency) about the importance of activities regarding the sea life and the protection of sea animals.
Furthermore, guests could watch the award-winning documentary «THE ARCHELON BUBBLE» by Lefteris Fylaktos as well as to play games that are originally conceived by ARCHELON in regard with sea turtle protection and endangered sea animals.
In addition, mr. Theodoros Benos Palmer, director of the Society, participated in a roundtable discussion on the importance of the concept of volunteering.
