A Digital Adventure for Your Class with ARCHELON
The Sea Turtle Rescue Centre of ARCHELON in Glyfada, Attica is already celebrating the 6th consecutive year of online tours for schools from across Greece and abroad, giving students the opportunity to discover firsthand the work of rescuing and protecting sea turtles and to experience an activity that combines knowledge, environmental awareness, and creativity.
Through a live connection with the Centre, students learn about the rescue stories of sea turtles and are informed about how everyday human activities can negatively affect marine ecosystems. The program is designed for all levels of education and includes digital and educational activities that encourage the active participation of students.
By taking part, each class automatically carries out a symbolic adoption of an injured turtle, helping to support the costs of its care and rehabilitation. Students receive an adoption certificate, audiovisual material about the turtle they adopted, and a plush turtle toy.
During the previous school year, 132 schools actively participated in the program, creating original and inspiring projects such as animations, stop-motion videos, e-books, and songs, featuring the plush turtle “Phoebe.” This participation not only helped cultivate students’ environmental awareness but also created a community of creative expression through learning.
This year, students have the opportunity to explore their creativity even further, as they are invited to compose an original song for “Everest” and the rescue mission he is experiencing. These creations will be presented at the Online Exhibition at the end of the school year, giving children the chance to share their work with a wider community.
