POLYCASTE of Gialova and the seminars for sea turtle rescuers
She was found hit on the head with a heavy tool, by beach visitors in Gialova beach, near the historic bay of Navarino in Peloponnese, Greece, mid-June this year.
She is already in ARCHELON’s Rescue Center in Glyfada, thanks to the caring people of nearby tourist enterprises, the coastal guards and the local bus company.
Her rescue was organized by a researcher of ARCHELON’s project in Romanos, who also gave her the name Polycaste, after the daughter of Nestor, the ancient Greek king of the nearby Pylos.
How can I help?
Become a member of ARCHELON’s Rescue network. Many of the turtles that reach the Rescue Center each year are intentionally injured by humans, and this number reached 40% of the arrivals in 2017. In order to help eliminate these incidents, ARCHELON will be organizing more seminars on sea turtle rescue, with the support of the PRASINO TAMEIO. Dates are to be announced soon.
