Our LIFE EUROTURTLES project: «Love is the goal. LIFE is the journey»

Our LIFE EUROTURTLES project has already begun since September 2016. It is a European LIFE project, in which ARCHELON is one of the main Beneficiaries and represents Greece. Altogether 9 beneficiaries from 6 countries (Greece, Italy, Malta, Slovenia, Croatia, Cyprus) are participating jointly to protect nests in nesting areas using new technologies (detecting nests using drones), discovering hot spots at sea in cooperation with fishermen, implementing public awareness activities and upgrading Turtle Rescue Centers.

In Greece, we have already started with actions in Messolonghi and in nesting areas where our presence was occasional in the past (Northern Kiparissiakos, Evrotas beach in the Laconikos Gulf, Kotychi - in cooperation with the Management Agency there, and the coastline of Preveza). The project's communication material will be ready soon. We informed the public about the For the LIFE EUROTURTLES program, during the "LIFE Information and Celebration of the 25th Anniversary of the Fund" held on 18 May in Kifissia, Athens. A different but simultaneous ARCHELON event with the slogan "Love is the goal. LIFE is the journey" was celebrated the same day for the European Day of NATURA 2000 and the 25 years of the LIFE Program implementation.

The rain did not prevent our members and friends from honoring us with their presence and participating in the LIFE and ARCHELON presentation and in the screening of the film: "Our wealth is the richness of the sea." The Mayor of Glyfada, Mr. Giorgos Papanikolaou together with the Chairman of our Board, Mr Thomas Arapis, inaugurated two new tanks that were funded by the LIFE EuroTurtles program.
