Omiros... “Odyssey”
The volunteers in the rescue centre treated him with love and devotion, hand feeding him for two years. Omiros learned how to track food in his tank but the extent of his injuries meant he would never be able to return to the sea because he would not be able to find his own food.
In autumn 2009, Pavlos Tsaros, who is responsible for the rescue centre, started a massive search to find a permanent home for the remainder of Omiros life. Blue Reef Aquarium in Newquay, Cornwall adopted him, and so Omiros adventure began!
Because Loggerheads are a recognised endangered species, international regulations required procedures to be completed for his transference. When everything was ready however, the trip was postponed due to bad weather in Europe.

Omirosʼ story will forever remind us that good conquers evil, one mans irrevocable inhumane actions, was counteracted with love, patience and care, which consequentially lead to Omiros living a happy long life in an aquarium as an example of human cruelty and rehabilitation.
Omiros is living proof that protection of every endangered creature will teach the public to love the environment and not to harm it in anyway.
