6th Year of Online Tours: The sea turtles are traveling across Greece once again!
The Sea Turtle Rescue Centre of ARCHELON celebrates its 6th consecutive year of online guided tours for schools across Greece and abroad! Students from every corner of the country, as well as from international schools, have the opportunity to learn up close about the lives of the turtles cared for at the Sea Turtle Rescue Centre in Glyfada, Attica, and to discover how rescue efforts impact the marine world.
Anna Kontoleon, the education officer at ARCHELON, states: “Students have the opportunity to get to know the turtles up close, learn about their rescue stories, and connect with our work through an interactive and creative experience. Every year reminds us how important it is to inspire the new generation for environmental protection.”

This year, the online tour program has been designed based on distance-learning principles, aiming for collaborative knowledge building, interactivity, and active student participation. The program is structured into 6 steps as follows:
1️. Pre-program questionnaire: students share their existing knowledge about sea turtles, the threats they face, and ARCHELON’s work.
2️. Asynchronous webinar: educators receive our educational material and are trained on how to use it.
3️. Digital educational material: educators work through the material with their students.
4️. Classroom discussion: students and teachers discuss the issues affecting the marine environment and record questions.
5️. Classroom discussion: students and teachers discuss the issues affecting the marine environment and record questions.
6️. Post-program questionnaire: students share their experience and their change in attitude toward protecting the marine environment.

Every year, students’ imagination shines through! By participating in the program, students symbolically adopt an injured turtle from the Rescue Centre, receive an adoption certificate, audiovisual material about the turtle they adopted, and a plush turtle toy, the little ‘Everest’.
At the same time, they are invited, with our guidance, to create songs inspired by sea turtles and their rescue mission. Their compositions will be presented in the Online Song Exhibition at the end of the school year, and the most beloved pieces will be published on ARCHELON’s website.
