NO! to the Youth Beach Festival on the Caretta caretta nesting beach organized by the Phaistos Municipality and the Crete regional authorities for 12 August

Since ARCHELONʼs official request to have the event held in an area other than on the nesting beach has up until now (11 August, 15.00) been ignored, we find ourselves in the unpleasant position to publicly express our opposition to this event taking place on this beach.

We would like to remind the organizers that:

Based on the above, we are diametrically opposed to holding the event on the nesting beach because:

ARCHELON, in its 20 years of working in Crete, has tried to ensure the safe and harmonious co-existence of sea turtles and man. The Gulf of Messara has the honor to be host to a truly great birth and life: the Caretta caretta turtles all during the summer to make their nests.

Letʼs enjoy the pleasures of our beaches and the sea during the day, and leave them quiet for the turtles at night, without people, noise, lights, or beach furniture.

Letʼs not unnecessarily add one more burden to the many serious problems which turtles in the area already face in the area due to the destruction of their habitat.

Letʼs not support activities like this particular beach party.
