New Info Station in Kyparissia Opens for LIFE MareNatura Project
ARCHELON is proud to announce the launch of a new Information Station in Kyparissia dedicated to the ongoing LIFE MareNatura project. Located at the beachfront of the town, the Info Station operates daily 18:30 - 21:00 until the end of September. The station is staffed by trained ARCHELON volunteers, offering visitors a unique opportunity to learn about the region’s vital marine biodiversity and the efforts made to protect it.

Kyparissia Bay is a site of regional importance, hosting the largest reproductive population of the Loggerhead turtle (Caretta caretta) in the Mediterranean. Since the early 1980s, ARCHELON has been continuous present in the area, conducting vital research and conservation activities. In 2018, Kyparissia bay was formally designated as a Nature Protection Area under the Natura 2000 network of protected, reinforcing its status as a critical habitat for sea turtle reproduction.
With the support of the LIFE Programme of the European Commission and the Green Fund, LIFE MareNatura aims to enhance protection measures through science-based management, habitat preservation, and the expansion of the Natura 2000 marine network in Greece. “Raising of public awareness and community engagement are essential to the project's success—and the new Info Station in Kyparissia plays a central role in this effort”, explains Anna Karatsori, ARCHELON’s Public Awareness Officer.

Visitors to the Info Station will have the opportunity to:
- Discover fascinating facts about the Loggerhead turtle and other marine species.
- Learn about the threats and pressures these species face and how they are being addressed.
- Engage with ARCHELON’s conservation work and volunteer efforts in the area.
- Understand the broader objectives of LIFE MareNatura and how local action supports global biodiversity goals.
We invite residents and tourists alike to visit the Information Station and join the movement to protect Greece’s precious marine life.
