CONTINUING THE TAGGING WORK IN AMVRAKIKOS BAY

September 8-11 saw the second and final tagging trip to Amvrakikos for 2010 with an aim to get 40 new turtle observations. Forecasts indicated that the 11th would bring rain so we needed to maximise our efforts on the first 3 days... Things did not go to plan.
Day 1: We lost all of the first dayʼs work due to a broken engine. Pity, because the weather conditions were perfect.
Day 3: The weather had begun to turn, it was cloudy and windy and the Bay had become quite choppy. Despite this the team managed to catch 12 more turtles.
A total of 32 healthy turtles was not bad considering the circumstances. In the pouring rain, we loaded up the van with our stuff and the sick turtle and headed back to ARCHELONʼs Rescue Centre in Glyfada, near Athens. Job over at Amvrakikos for another year, but the 3rd sick or injured turtle taken to be rehabilitated at the Rescue Centre by the project team will be well looked after in the coming weeks. Some things you just canʼt plan.
