ARCHELON and Aqua Divers Club helps more Sea Turtles to be returned to the sea
It was already November when Chris, Michail and Jiannis - three sea turtles - started their journey back to the sea.
Aqua Divers Club supports the work of ARCHELON - The Sea Turtle Protection Society of Greece, by releasing the Sea Turtles that were being treated in the Sea Turtle Rescue Centre in Glyfada.
“Chris”, a caretta-caretta of 47.5cm carapace, was found in Karystos in March 2010 suffering from a fishing hook ingestion. After a sugery performed to remove the hook, it took him several months to recover and be ready to swimm free in the sea again.
“Michail”, a caretta-caretta of 58.5cm carapace, was found in Andros, in July 2010, with a part of its jaw missing. Despite that, Michail managed to start eating again and getting stronger every day.
“Jiannis”, the smallest, was only 7 kg. we he was found in May 2010 close to Nafpactos, with a severe head injury. While healing, he suffered from inclining problem for several months. This was the second attempt to release Jiannis, and even this time we had to encourage him to dive to the deep!!! (Α.Τ.)
