An offer to EXPERIENCED volunteers: You can now join the beach projects for 2-3 weeks!
Have you been thinking of returning to the sea turtle conservation projects but you don't have enough available time? A limited number of EXPERIENCED returning volunteers can now participate in any project they choose for two or three weeks, getting a small taste of this year's turtle-summer. Here are the reasons that the most effective duration of participation in ARCHELON’s sea turtle conservation projects is 4 weeks or more: volunteers need to receive training and it takes some time for them to “glue” together as a team. However, if you already have had the training in previous years and you are flexible enough to quickly blend in the project, you can get straight into action and join us again for 2-3 weeks. It is a great opportunity to share your experience with the new volunteers and help us protect the 2023 hatchlings. 32 Years Returning to Nest: A Record Reproductive Lifespan for the Loggerhead Sea Turtle in Kyparissia Bay
When we analyzed the turtles’ codes, we realized that this was a turtle that had been tagged for the first time in the area 32 years ago! Specifically, turtle P4849 was tagged on July 7, 1993 and today is the turtle with the longest documented reproductive lifespan in Kyparissia Bay!
