Romanos beach is located on the west coast of the Peloponnese, 50 km west of Kalamata.
During a first investigation of the area in 1984, ARCHELON found that sea turtles use the beaches north of Pylos for nesting and from 1989 started systematic recording in the area.
Regular recording of annual breeding activity and protection of nests mainly from predation and flooding, has been carried out every summer since 2010 in cooperation with the Costa Navarino hotel unit.
Romanos beach, as well as the surrounding coasts, host an average of 47 nests each year.
Romanos beach is part of the NATURA 2000 network, with GR2550004 code "LIMNOTHALASSA PYLOU (DIVARI) KAI NISOS SFAKTIRIA, AGIOS DIMITRIOS".
