Visits to ARCHELON’s Sea Turtle Rescue Center are postponed for the next 2 weeks
Dimitris Fytilis, the Rescue Center Coordinator, informs us: “Visits to the Sea Turtle Rescue Center take place outdoors as well on semi- open spaces. However yesterday we felt it was right to postpone the scheduled visits and the Center will remain closed to the public for the next 2 weeks, in order to protect public health, as well as our staff and volunteers."
"Our primary concern is to protect the health of the volunteers who contribute to the operation of the Center" says Theoni Karkoulia, ARCHELON’s Volunteer Officer. "It is very fortunate that everyone at the Rescue Centre right now is in good health, no one has traveled to an area with a serious outbreak and no one has been in contact with a confirmed case."
Similar preparations are being made for ARCHELON's conservation programs at the nesting beaches of sea turtles in Zakynthos, Crete and the Peloponnese, which will begin in May. We hope by then that there will be positive developments on this issue of global concern.

32 Years Returning to Nest: A Record Reproductive Lifespan for the Loggerhead Sea Turtle in Kyparissia Bay
When we analyzed the turtles’ codes, we realized that this was a turtle that had been tagged for the first time in the area 32 years ago! Specifically, turtle P4849 was tagged on July 7, 1993 and today is the turtle with the longest documented reproductive lifespan in Kyparissia Bay!
