The first nest of Caretta in Zakynthos!

The beach of Gerakas, as well as the beaches of Kalamaki, Dafni and Marathonisi, are part of a Nature Protected Area, and within the National Marine Park of Zakynthos (NMPZ). The beach of Sekania is an area of absolute protection, due to an exceptionally high density of Caretta caretta nests.
Scientific data on the life cycle of the Sea Turtle during nesting, hatching and excavation periods, as well as the natural characteristics of the nesting beaches and the socio-economic data in the area of the National Marine Park of Zakynthos are collected by ARCHELON and the Management Agency of the National Marine Park of Zakynthos.
While the arrival of the first nest in Zakynthos is great news for all of us, it also creates the need for more attention and consideration concerning the use of both the NMPZ nesting beaches and the marine area by visitors, professionals working within the bay and locals alike.
