One more EVS volunteer in ARCHELON
From July to November 2015 ARCHELON hosted one more EVS (European Voluntary Service under ERASMUS+ programme) volunteer from Sweden. Makelainen Mattias stayed for 4 months at the Rescue Center and helped with the rehabilitation of injured sea turtles. ARCHELON is welcoming long term volunteering and EVS programmes. We asked Mattias to give us an idea of his EVS experience and you can find below his comments.
At the same time SILVA Susana Ferreira, our Portuguese EVS volunteer, who was part of the EVS programme from May to mid November 2015, decided to stay one month longer (outside of the programme) something that makes us feel proud and of course we welcome her in that.
As it was the only choice for volunteering in that particular moment, I decided to go.
Why sea turtles?
I wanted to work with animals and sea turtles was the best choice to add it in my Curriculum Vitae.
How is your experience up to now?
Although it was a lot of heat and a lot of work to do, it was a very good experience since I met a lot of nice people and I was next to sea.
Why did you want to participate in EVS?
Since I was unemployed and new in the town I was looking for options of what to do next. EVS came randomly through my sending organisation as something I could do for the next few months. I liked the idea of volunteering so I decided to participate and leave for a while the cold weather of Sweden.
