Evening presentation about Sea Turtles at Louis Zante Beach hotel

Evening presentation about Sea Turtles at Louis Zante Beach hotelOn the 16th of September, a presentation evening took place at Louis Zante Beach hotel in Laganas, Zakynthos in order to inform tourists about the sea turtles that are currently being treated in the Rescue Centre of ARCHELON in Glyfada, Athens.

The evening focussed on some of the sea turtles sent from Zakynthos including Rike, a female loggerhead found on 3rd September 2015 with an intentional head injury. The presentation included, apart from the information regarding the Rescue Centre turtles, the story of Kostas, a male loggerhead turtle that was released in front of Louis Zante Beach hotel last season.

Evening presentation about Sea Turtles at Louis Zante Beach hotelKostas was found by ARCHELON volunteers in the port of Kyparissia in May 2014. The information was sent by local fisherman through the National Rescue Network that ARCHELON keeps in close cooperation with the Port Police. Once the volunteers reached the port it was clear to see that Kostas had suffered an intentional head injury. He was immediately transported to the Rescue Centre in Glyfada.
Once he arrived at the Rescue Centre he was cared for and treated by the volunteers over a period of 4 months, until he was observed to be fit enough to return to his natural environment. The release took place in Zakynthos in front of Louis Zante beach hotel.

After the release Louis Zante beach started a campaign to donate 5% of all their website bookings from March-May 2015 to Zakynthos Project. ‎At the end it was raised the amount of €2,209.

We would like to say a massive thank you to Louis Zante Beach for their generous donation to our project and also thank you to all their guests for attending our presentation evening.
