Why become a member of the Rescue Network?
As temperatures rise, the number of injured turtles that come to Sea Turtle Rescue Network in Glyfada increases also.
Along with the change of the weather and the arrival of summer, the turtles that arrive in our country's waters to reproduce or to feed, is multiplied. Probably, when your whole life is a journey and the destination seems to be as important as the way, you can only live adventures all the time!
For the sea turtle however, many "adventures" can be fatal. These travelers face many dangers during all these routes. Speed boats, nets and longlines, degradation of the nesting beaches and the marine environment in general constitute a risk puzzle that must not leave us indifferent. In addition, while deliberate sea turtle injuries constitute one exception to the rule, they still raise questions.
Only in 2016, the Sea Turtle Rescue Center has received 20 injured turtles from various areas of Greece. With proper medication, monitoring and of course the care of our volunteers, we hope for a happy ending to their suffering and safe return to the waters.
Sea turtles "pass" from the Sea Turtle Rescue Network and can bring a chance for further research which will bring changes in the way we think and act.
The National ARCHELON Rescue Network, which is staffed by ordinary citizens, Port staff, veterinarians, etc, undertakes the rescue work each time. For their education “Rescue Volunteer” seminars are held every year.
