Conservation efforts during 2014 in Laganas Bay, Zakynthos (short report)
In this short report, covering the period 1 January – 15 October 2014 (unless otherwise stated), we present major facts concerning sea turtle conservation on Zakynthos Island, Greece. Specifically, the ARCHELONʼs field project and the work of the Management Agency (MA) of the National Marine Park of Zakynthos (NMPZ) are presented. Further, we update the conservation status of the nesting beaches and the problems at the protected marine area, as these were witnessed through ARCHELON field observers. Finally, we provide a set of recommendations for the improvement of the conservation perspective of this regionally very important reproductive habitat. The ARCHELON 2014 project leader George Valais and the field leaders Rebecca Prangnell, Jo Farrow, Rachel Richards, Gonçalo Lourenço, Adam Andrews, and James Edun assisted to the drafting of this report, prepared by Smaro Touliatou and Dimitris Margaritoulis.
