Eva Horajo Berna continues her sea turtle journey around the world!
Hello to all ARCHELON projects and the Rescue Center from Eva Horajo Berna. I am now at the sea turtle habitats in Tioman island (Malaysia). This is my second year of working as the Sea Turtle Program Coordinator on Tioman. Some of my duties here include protecting the nests of green and hawksbill sea turtles from poaching. Although the nesting activity here is much lower than in Greece, this year I am planning to estimate the resident population of sea turtles here by using photo ID techniques.
Every time I encounter a sea turtle underwater I recall Zakynthos in 2017, where I was ARCHELON’s monitoring assistant. I enjoyed so much the night surveys on the beaches and going snorkeling to observe these ancient reptiles underwater. All encounters with sea turtles, on the beach, underwater and later at the Rescue Center, have become very meaningful to me. And when this feeling is back, I start telling stories to my friends here starting with: “ In Greece…”. I wish you a good turtle season, everyone!
